The Jerusalem Summit, an emergency gathering of Christian leaders and scholars convened by the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem to fight antisemitism, ended on Thursday evening (11/06) with a special program and dinner at Israel’s Foreign Ministry highlighted by an inspiring address by US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee.
“The reason we stand with Israel is not political, but because of God’s promises to Abraham,” Amb. Huckabee told the pro-Israel Christian pastors and leaders from around the world. “The amazing thing is that a tiny, tiny country of ten million people wins, over and over again, when its existence is threatened by those who have ten times the population, many times the military budget. And yet, it not only survives. It thrives.”
“So, what’s the secret? The secret is that 3,800 years ago, God told Abraham, ‘I’m going to create a people. And you’re it. And I’m going to put you in a place. And this is it. And this is going to be your place. And I’m going to give you a purpose. And you’re going to fulfil it’,” Huckabee stated.
Amb. Huckabee also addressed reports of violence against Christians in Israel, saying: “I have been visiting this country for 53 years. I cannot think of a warmer welcome I could have received, not just from the government officials, but from the people on the streets and everywhere I go in this country. I am amazed at the reception that people show me, knowing full well that I am an evangelical Christian who believes in the Bible. It does not offend people.”
This year’s inaugural Jerusalem Summit, held amid heated exchanges this week between Israel and the United States with Iran, was attended by over 200 theologians, scholars, pastors and ministry leader from more than 30 nations, with another 3,000 Christians joining online.
The urgent gathering was called by the ICEJ to equip and encourage Christian leaders to stand up to the rampant antisemitism spreading worldwide since the October 7 terror invasion of Israel by Hamas. The high-level roster of theologians and Bible scholars speaking at the Summit also took aim at the new forms of Replacement theology gaining traction even in Evangelical circles, as well as the failure of the Nicene Creed adopted 1700 years ago to acknowledge the Jewishness of Jesus and the Hebraic roots of the Church.
