Recently ICEJ had the opportunity to bless 115 children from newly arrived immigrant families in a “back-to-school” effort. Each child received a new school backpack – an important but costly item for families already facing the many expenses of starting a new life in Israel.

Through this back-to-school project, Christian volunteers were able to offer practical encouragement to these new immigrant families. For many parents, it comes as a welcome surprise to discover that Christians around the world stand with Israel and genuinely care about their families. At a time when anti-Israel voices dominate much of the international news, such simple acts of kindness can carry a powerful message: you are not alone.

When we arrived at the donation site in Ashdod, we were greeted by the organiser who thanked ICEJ and the Cornerstone Foundation for such a wonderful project! He said,

 “For many, it’s actually their first time attending school in Israel since they recently arrived. These families came from different countries back to Israel, and now they’re starting their new life in the land. To have Christians coming, helping, loving, smiling and passing on blessings helps a lot practically, but it also really encourages people and gives them a sense that ‘we’re not alone in the world.’”

The practical expression of love and care is even more meaningful for the parents, because it encourages their children as they take their first steps into Israeli schools and begin building a new future in their ancestral homeland. The organiser continues,

“For some parents, it’s even shocking to hear about Christians from so many countries who support us. So, thank you very much for such a beautiful project. You make life easier for new Jewish immigrants who have just come back to Israel, but you are also a blessing to them spiritually.”

For ICEJ, this simple act of kindness is part of our biblical calling to “Comfort, comfort My people” (Isaiah 40:1). Through the generosity of our donors, newly arrived immigrant families are discovering that Christians around the world are ready to welcome them, stand with them and help them build their future in Israel.
