Global Esther Fast for Israel
The ICEJ is joining a call with other ministries and congregations in Israel for a special three-day Esther Fast from March 20-to-23, just ahead of the festival of Purim, when the Jewish people celebrate their victory from annihilation in Persia as recounted in the book of Esther. We will begin this fast on Wednesday, March 20th at 4:00 pm (Israel time) and will end at 4:00 pm (Israel time) on Saturday, March 23rd.
This year, Purim coincides with the Persian New Year as well as the Muslim month-long fast of Ramadan. Since the beginning of the war between Israel and the Hamas terror militia, we have been engaging in strategic three-day Esther fasts with the understanding that at the same time when Israel’s army is fighting in the physical realm, the Lord has enlisted us to stand and wage war on behalf of God’s divine plans and purposes in the heavenlies.
The Apostle Paul taught that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but they are mighty in God for the pulling down of strongholds and wrestling against principalities, powers and rulers in the heavenly places (2 Corinthians 10:4, Ephesians 6:12). As we have been praying for the protection of Israel’s borders, we realize terror militias like Hamas and Hizbullah who wage war on Israel are only the tail, while the head of the snake is Iran.
At this strategic time, we must pray not only for victory against Hamas in Gaza and for peace on Israel’s northern border, but also to pray for the demise of the Islamic regime now controlling Iran – which is modern-day Persia.
Persia has a long history in which at key times it blessed Israel, such as when King Cyrus freed the Jews and commissioned them to return to Jerusalem and rebuild their Temple. Nehemiah prayed and fasted, and the Lord gave him favor with the king of Persia to return and rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Ezra prayed and the Lord gave him favor and the king sent him to teach the Word of God to the freed Jews who had returned to the Land.
Esther and Mordecai also fasted and prayed in the royal courts of ancient Persia, and the evil plans of Hamas was thwarted, the tables turned and the enemy who planned to destroy the Jews was eliminated.
Today, Iran has the fastest growing church in the world, even while the oppressive Islamic regime is the number one state sponsor of global terrorism. Millions of Iranians have rejected Islam, two-thirds of the mosques are closed, and on their national independence day many Iranians go to King Cyrus’ tomb.
Brothers and sisters, it is imperative for the global Body of Christ to stand with Israel and its people. Our professions of love and support alone will not do it anymore! It is the time for action, including in the spiritual realm!
This is a time when the Church is called to ascend to our spiritual vantage point and join in this battle. Is the time to come together for a powerful Esther Fast to approach the throne of God on behalf of His beloved people.
