Aliyah
From its inception the ICEJ began to mobilize help for the suffering Jews of the former Soviet Union who were blocked by Communist authorities from being able to return to the Jewish homeland. Working with Jewish and Christian activists, the ICEJ organized demonstrations at Soviet embassies and called for worldwide Christian prayer and action on behalf of Soviet Jewish Refuseniks. When the door for large scale immigration was opened in 1990, the Embassy became directly involved in helping the aliyah process.
To date, the ICEJ has assisted over 100,000 Jews in making aliyah to Israel and has sponsored over 54 planeloads of Jewish immigrants from the former Soviet Union. We also are continuing and expanding our transport operations in the FSU, bringing tens of thousands of Jews to airports and other transit centers on their way to Israel. Once these Russian immigrants are in Israel, they are given practical assistance in the absorption process.
“ Behold, I will lift up my hand to the nations, and set up my ensign to the peoples
and they shall bring thy sons…” Isa 49:22
