Proud universities, hospitals awarded research grants

29 Jul 2010

The Israel Science Foundation of Israel Academy of Science has awarded 141 research grants this year with some varying as much as thousands of dollars. Thirty five of the grants went to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, 23 to Tel Aviv University and 17 to the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot. Several physician researchers from five Israeli Medical Centers were also recipients. “The grants are given in three categories: the exact sciences and technology; life sciences and medicine; and the humanities,” said Dr. Oren Shibolet, director of Hadassah Hospital’s research committee. The Sheba Medical Center is excited to receive grants as an example of its “prominent presence among leading researchers along with outstanding excellence in clinical work as the largest and leading medical center in the country,” said its spokesman. “We congratulate the others on the list... When all the parameters of medical research are taken into consideration, including all the research grants we receive throughout the year and over the years, one will see that Sheba is at the top.”
