Jerusalem to send aid to Myanmar

By ICEJ News

07 May 2008

Israel is partnering with other countries to provide aid to areas devastated by the catastrophic cyclone that killed at least 22,500 people in Myanmar last weekend. Israel’s Foreign Ministry along with the Jewish Joint Distribution agency is expected to supply a $100,000 emergency relief package containing medicine and medical supplies in upcoming days. The Foreign Ministry is sending a team of 12 medical and relief specialists to the country this week. One of Israel’s non-profit organizations, Latet, will also deploy two analysts to assess the country to better understand the amount of aid required. "Even though the poverty here is great and the distress is great, the fact that on the eve of the State of Israel's 60th Independence Day of all times we Israelis have the power to offer help fills me with a sense of pride," said Latet’s Director Adv. Eran Weintraub, reported Ynetnews.
