Italian lawmakers want IHH on European Union terrorist list

By ICEJ News

28 Jul 2010

Legislators in Italy’s Chamber of Deputies are trying to add the Turkish IHH relief organization to the EU terror list. “The Islamic fundamentalist nature of IHH has been documented by numerous declarations praising martyrdom and Israel’s destruction,” said Italian lawmaker Fiamma Nirenstein on Tuesday, adding that IHH supports terrorism based on the EU’s definition as “participation in the activities of a terrorist group, including by funding its activities or supply material resources. Several investigations and reports testify to the involvement of IHH in global terrorism, and many videos and documents attest to its jihadist attitude.” The IHH was the main promoter of the Mavi Marmara flotilla that attempted to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza on May 31. It is linked to Hamas and the Union of Good, a group that the US Treasury lists as a financial supporter of terror.
