Israeli pilots train German Air Force personnel

By ICEJ News

28 Jul 2010

Israeli knowledge and experience continues to benefit its friends and allies as a team of German air force pilots arrived in Israel this week to train with the IDF in the use of its new Israeli built Heron UAVs, equipment that is giving the 4,300 strong German contingent in Afghanistan (the third largest NATO contingent) a critical edge in the battle against a resurgent Taliban insurgency. "It's a huge support because then we can finally do intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance right over the battlefields in real life, so we support the troops and we can support convoys driving around in real time," said one German pilot whose identity could not be revealed due to military regulations. “In Afghanistan it's really hard to compare the good guys from the bad guys," said another pilot. "So you have to surveil them a long time until you can say 'okay, maybe he's kind of a suspicious person, so maybe we should investigate it a longer time or not.' So that's the main reason why we have the Heron there."
