Ten staff members from the ICEJ rolled up their sleeves one day last month to volunteer at a special food and clothing distribution project in the coastal town of Rishon L'Zion. There they joined a team of other Israeli volunteers for the Pitchon Lev charity, which operates a weekly ‘store’ for the poor and needy in a shopping mall parking lot.
Every Thursday morning, Pitchon Lev sets up its own shop in the car lot, selling regular food and clothing at extremely low prices, which allows the poor to sense they truly purchased what they need. Our staff saw firsthand the importance of a project which is helping hundreds of people suffering economic hardships to provide for their families without feeling they are taking handouts.
For just a few shekels, they received grocery bags full of donated food items, fruits and vegetables, while clothes and household items were also available for a nominal amount.
Last year, ICEJ Aid provided Pitchon Lev with a van for collecting and distributing food and we soon hope to provide another transport vehicle. The food distribution van bears the ICEJ name and logo and the message, 'Israel You Are Not Alone' in Hebrew. Please consider joining us in putting another van into service for this worthy project.
