Hamas kicks off Gaza summer camps

According to a Hamas announcement on Tuesday, over 150,000 Palestinian children are expected to attend the Islamist terror militia's 800 summer camps during their summer vacation. The camps are called ‘Steadfastness Despite the Closure’ and are an effort “to strengthen the ongoing steadfastness of the Gaza Strip’s people, in the face of the strangling Zionist closure." Among the camp activities are reciting the Koran, recreational activities, and wearing uniforms, said the group's summer camp committee. Reports last summer indicated Hamas used such camps to train kids to use arms and to advocate Islamic beliefs. Meanwhile, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency is also holding summer camps in Gaza for over 200,000 kids who attend UNRWA schools, along with others who want to participate. "There is no competition between our camps and those of Hamas," said Adnan Abu Hasna, an UNRWA spokesman in Gaza. "Our programs include discussions about peace and coexistence; no politics are involved," added Hasna, who noted that he was not aware of Hamas’ program contents, reported The Jerusalem Post.
