3 killed, 3 wounded in Haifa plane crash

Private aircraft veered off runway on return from Cyprus

By ICEJ News

08 Aug 2008

A small private plane crashed in the northern port city of Haifa Thursday afternoon, killing three people and critically wounding three others when it veered off the landing strip on its approach and slammed into an empty building next to the airport. Media reports said some people on the ground were injured.

Paramedics had initially declared a mass casualty incident following the accident, as they were unaware of the size of the aircraft. The plane burst into flames immediately after striking the building but firefighters swiftly brought the blaze under control and managed to rescue the survivors. The plane is believed to have been returning to Israel from Cyprus.
